ABOUT THIS COURSE
This course offers an introduction to working with young people (age 12+). It is ideal for those looking to begin their practice with this client group or those looking to reflect on their current practice.

What you will learn

  • Develop an awareness of the importance of contracting with children/young people and their parents, and an understanding of the nature of a "triangular relationship"
  • Develop an awareness of the importance of appropriate contracting with families
  • Develop an awareness of managing confidentiality and boundaries in the work between children/young people and their parents, and between family members
  • Learn to think through ideas for collecting and managing payment when working with children, young people and families
  • Learn to think about using and storing materials (art supplies, games, etc.) in the room and in the centres
  • Learn to understand the importance of managing safeguarding issues, and have ideas for best practice

 

This course has been designed to offer support and information to colleagues working with children and families at First Psychology. It outlines some of the processes and procedures we, as an organisation, undertake, and provides some general thoughts and observations as to what might be considered good practice in the area.

The course consists of presentations from practitioners at First Psychology with a wealth of experience of working with this client group, alongside self-directed reading and a reflective exercise.
